MONTGOMERY — An Auburn man was arrested on April 29, 2022, for multiple sex offenses against children in Lee County.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, David “Chip” Barkley Johnson, 60, was arrested and was taken to the Lee County Jail, with bond set at $1.2 million.
Attorney General, Steve Marshall’s Criminal Trials Division, presented evidence to a Lee County grand jury on April 18, 2022, resulting in an indictment returned against Johnson for child-related sexual offenses.
Specifically, the indictment charges Johnson with 15 counts of production of obscene matter, 15 counts of possession of obscene matter, four counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, and two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes.
If convicted of the charges of production of obscene matter, Johnson faces a penalty of 10 to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $60,000. If convicted of any of the remaining charges, Johnson faces a penalty of one year and one day to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
An indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
