BIRMINGHAM — A 21-year-old Birmingham man pleaded guilty to the 2019 murder of a 78-year-old man on Tuesday, June 7.
According to Carol Robinson at AL.com, Eric Dewayne Kindred pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of murder and was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.
The plea bargain dismissed the charges of burglary and theft of property.
The murder took place on August 29, 2019, around 9:30 p.m., when Louis Zicarelli was shot to death when he answered a knock at his door. Louis’ wife was present during the shooting but was not harmed. Reports state that the Zicarelli home was burglarized earlier that same day by Kindred, and Zicarelli’s car was stolen.
Kindred committed the crime when he was 18 years old and was arrested on September 13, 2019.
