BIRMINGHAM — Road closures for vehicles have been announced for Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17 related to the duathlon and orienteering events for The World Games 2022. This weekend’s competitions will require street blockades in a significant area downtown.

- 14th Street North and 4th Avenue North
- 15th Street North and 3rd Avenue North
- 17th Street North and 1st Avenue North
- 17th Street North and 2nd Avenue North
- 19th Street North and 1st Avenue North
- 20th Street North and 1st Avenue North
- 20th Street North and 2nd Avenue North
- 18th Street South and 2nd Avenue South
Again, motorists should expect delays at controlled access points. Crossings at controlled access points will be limited to ensure the safety of the athletes.
In between the morning and evening competitions, the streets will be open from approximately 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. except for 1st Avenue South from 14th Street South to 18th Street South.
On Sunday, the orienteering competition will require road closures for a smaller area near Railroad Park from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The affected area will include the area in the Parkside District from Richard Arrington, Jr. Boulevard to 14th Street South and 2nd Avenue South to Powell Avenue.
The Sunday duathlon event will then require additional street closures from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Sunday duathlon closures will be the same as Saturday’s event.
The duathlon and orienteering events are non-ticketed events and open to the public.
Upon completion of the Sunday competition, all streets in this area except for 1st Avenue South will be open. 1st Avenue South is estimated to re-open by 8 p.m. Sunday night.
The street closures will also affect portions of the red and yellow routes of The World Games Transit Line.
