TRUSSVILLE — Former “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” child actor Luke Bigham has been found guilty of reckless driving and third-degree domestic violence.
Trussville Municipal Court Judge Carl Chamblee found Bigham, who played 10-year-old Ricky Bobby in the movie, guilty of both charges.
Bigham was released from Trussville City Jail on Friday.
The reckless driving conviction stems from a June incident in which Bigham was the driver of a Lexus that was allegedly traveling in speeds in excess of 80 mph in a 35 mph zone and caused a five-vehicle accident on Main Street in Trussville. Bigham’s bond in that case was revoked by Chamblee on July 11 after Bigham was arrested and charged with third-degree domestic violence, when he allegedly pushed his mother down some stairs.
Chamblee on Friday delivered a sobering speech to Bigham in court. He focused on the June reckless driving incident. He said he hopes Bigham’s 17 days in jail “sent a message to you.”
“You could have killed somebody, seriously injured citizens,” Chamblee said.
Chamblee said it was a “miracle” no one was seriously injured in the crash.
Bigham’s attorney Jeffrey Bramer said Friday’s ruling will be appealed to Jefferson County Circuit Court. Bramer said the appealed cases “will start all over downtown.”
