The Pinson City Council held a special-called council meeting today to canvas the official election results. Today’s count included approved provisional ballots, which were not included in last Tuesday’s results.
“Provisional ballots are for someone who was registered to vote on a parcel of land within the city limit that was for some reason not on the list,” Mayor Hoyt Sanders said.
Of the 14 provisional ballots that the city accepted, eight were approved by the Jefferson County Board of Registrars.
For the position of Council Place 3, Cathy Leslie did not receive any provisional votes, Robbie Roberts received seven provisional votes and Jeff Walden received one provisional vote.
The totals votes for each candidate were: Leslie, 145; Roberts, 364; and Walden, 224. This outcome confirms that Roberts and Walden will be in a runoff on Oct. 9.
For the position of Mayor of the City of Pinson, Sue Bowden did not receive any provisional votes, Hoyt Sanders received five provisional votes and Phil Sims received three provisional votes.
The totals for each mayoral candidate were: Bowden, 69; Sanders, 456; and Sims, 237. This confirms that Hoyt Sanders won the election for the position of Pinson Mayor.
“I appreciate the peoples’ faith and confidence in the job we’re doing,” Sanders said
. “We have some projects, like the park, that I’ll be excited to see them come to completion and fruition. I’m excited about my third term.”
