CLAY — Garbage in Clay will continue as it has been at least for the foreseeable future. The city voted 6-0 to allow Mayor Charles Webster to sign a contract extension with Republic Services (BFI Waste Services, LLC) to continue their garbage routes in the city.
A 3-year contract will soon expire, but the vote extended the contract through the next three years for a residential rate of $13.99.
Councilman Ben Thacker asked how citizens were to treat brush and other yard trash.
Eric Kolb, Municpal Director for the company, said the company picks up brush, bags of leaves and other waste weekly, along with garbage pick up, but not necessarily on the same day.
“Typically if someone puts something out on Saturday and Sunday, it should get picked up by the end of that week,” he said.
He said residents need to put those items on the curb close to the road and make sure there are no power lines above it.
“As long as it’s on the curb, we’ll pick it up,” Kolb said.
