Stolen Laptop Sends Photo of Suspect
From Staff Reports
BIRMINGHAM — Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of two separate burglaries in the area of the 200 block of Maple Way in Center Point on Tuesday. In each case someone forced entry into the home and stole electronics.
Deputies began investigating the burglaries immediately. It was determined that one stolen laptop has a feature that uses a built in webcam to take photos of anyone trying to access the computer without the proper password. The photo is then transmitted to the owner’s cell phone. A photo of the person attempting to use the stolen laptop was received.
Investigators are attempting to identify and locate the person featured in the photograph to determine what, if any, role he played in the burglaries and the theft of the laptop.
Anyone who has information about this case is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
