Is this your most favorite time of year? For many springtime brings about a new lease on life. We’ve survived another cold, wet, muddy Alabama winter and now everything is coming to life. It is refreshing. Now we can feel the warmth of heat and everything is turning green and colorful with blooms. But soon the weeds grow, sometimes faster than anything else. They come out slowly at first and grow taller until they are taller than all the grass that is trying to break through with new growth.
So we acquire some “Roundup” or “2, 4-D” and get to work. We’re warned not to spray the flowers that look similar to those troublesome weeds. It’s really hard to tell the difference! A week or so later we’ll be accused of getting too close to the flowers but we know deep inside, it is still better than crawling around pulling weeds!
Weeds started with Adam and Eve. In Genesis 3, God told Adam the ground would produce “thorns and thistles” …we call those weeds! God also let Adam know he would have to work the ground…we call that killing weeds!
On a more personal level, we all have weeds in our lives. They are those pesky things that tend to spring up and just make life ugly. It’s the traits no one wants to see and sometimes, frankly, is just a sin. God is not pleased with these aspects of our lives. They hurt us and those around us.
Spring, is a great time to allow new growth to come into our lives! We all have areas that need to be pruned or simply eliminated. Please don’t get overwhelmed. No one expects perfection, just shoot for improvement! You will be glad you did…and so will those around you!
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
