CLAY –Students from Clay-Chalkville High School won first place at the Jefferson County Special Olympics soccer tournament in Gardendale on Thursday.
Team members are Jai-Lynda Henry, Lidottrick Pharris, Skyie McClee, CJ Larry, Isaiah Primm, Thaddeus Oddie, Alyssa Miller, Donte Benford, Marcus Beal, and Brian Weir. They outscored teams from Minor and Pleasant Grove in hard-fought games.
Other students participated on the team or placed in individual skills events that included dribbling, passing, and shooting. They included Jessica Johnson, Karina Hernandez-Telles, Gerrin Swain, Tramoria Ray, Gabriel Bailey, Ericka Turner, Brandon Isbell, Dee Adams, and Roderius Tucker.
The Jefferson County Adapted PE program organizes Special Olympics events throughout the school year as well as other recreational activities for students with disabilities and the teams are coached by their classroom teachers and paraprofessionals.
CCHS teachers and paraprofessionals who assisted the soccer players are Julie Crouch, Tiffany Clay, Shelley Ingle, Kathryn Manley, Jacylyn Nail, and Resha Riggins.
