Mark Halstead announced Sunday that he intends to run for Place 4 on the Clay City Council in the Aug. 28 municipal election. L. B. Feemster, who currently sits in Place 4 on the council, announced last month that he does not intend to run for re-election.
“I have been continuously involved the past 12 years serving on the Clay City Council, the Zoning Board of Adjustments and the Planning and Zoning Commission,” Halstead said. “I would like to continue our work together for the citizens of Clay to further improve our way of life in our small community.”
Halstead served as a city councilman from 2004 to 2008. During that time, he oversaw Public Works, Streets, Sanitation, Utilities and Building Inspection.
He was one of the first members appointed to the Zoning Board of Adjustments in 2000 and served on the board until 2002.
Halstead is currently the Vice-Chairman on the Planning and Zoning Commission and has been a part of the Commission since 2002.
“I am committed to work closely with the next administration and newly elected officials over the next four years,” he said. “My interest are many, but if elected as councilman, I will ask that the mayor assign me to the Public Works and Building Inspections Committee.”
Halstead has lived in Clay for 15 years.
“I am looking forward to serving the citizens of our community in a positive way to get as much accomplished as possible over the next four years,” he said. “I have developed a good working relationship over the years with all city employees. If I am elected to office, I feel it will be positive for our community.”
Clay citizens will be able to vote at the Clay Community Center and Clearview Baptist Church
