Award winners from the Pinson Education Foundation annual banquet earlier this month have been announced.
Abby Vinson, a Pinson Valley High School senior who recently signed a golf scholarship with Point University in Georgia, was named Student of the Year
. Lauren Tralongo, who will be attending Auburn University, was runner-up.
Pinson Valley High School Fine Arts teacher Rachel Smith was named Teacher of the Year, and Taqua Lewis was named Support Staff Member of the Year.
“It is really great to see the full involvement of the community and schools together,” said Joe Cochran, a Pinson City Council member who serves as the foundation’s executive director. “Each school in Pinson was represented by the schools, principals as well as assistant principals. We had sponsorship from the community to ensure our recipients had something to remember the night by and help get these students off to college with some help.”
Other teachers up for Teacher of the Year were, from Pinson Elementary School, Dale Ingram, Kourtney Lund, Amelia Evans and Brooklyn Galloway; from Kermit Johnson Elementary School, Natasha Stark; from Rudd Middle School, Carol Southerland; and from Pinson Valley High School, Erin Dearman and Lynne Seargeant.
Winners of the Character Award were Brooklyn Miller, Caleb O’Toole, Keenan Robinson, Maricarman Carranza, Estrella Jimenez, Brady Kiker, Mireya Carranza, Drew Henderson, Michael Calhoun, Kendlyn Spencer, Trenton Belcher, Jasmine Thomas, Elijah Bibbs and Lauren Gandy.
