TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Girls Softball Association (TGSA) will be hosting its first annual yard sale this Saturday at Added Storage from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All the items sold by the rec league softball club will be donations, and all money raised by the event will be used to maintain and benefit the softball park.
“One of the biggest things right now is we’re hoping to improve on a lot of the grounds,” said Mallory Halpin, a coach with TGSA. “We’ve recently had some lights put up by a business, local to us, and those were donated…other things we’re hoping to do is help to fund a lot of the events that the girls like to do, and hoping to keep the grounds up. There are plans in the future to host something like a hitting house, or possibly a playground in that area. There are a lot of things that we can certainly do to improve the area…and to keep it a great place for the girls.”
Rec softball performs a valuable service to the community. It provides comradery for the youth while training them to not only be good softball players, but teaches the value of good citizenship, as well.
“My daughter has played for several seasons now, and I feel like it really gives them a sense of community and a sense of ownership for something at such a young age,” said Halpin. “She started out when she was five, she just turned seven, and her friends that she has now are mainly from softball. It’s just something good that keeps the girls active and entertained. Also, it gives the parents a good platform and places to interact with their kids and spend their weekends just ministering to a lot of kids. We just like to use it as our platform to spread as much fun, but also to have these girls learn the basics of softball so, hopefully, they’ll be able to continue with their career and they’ll be successful in the future.”
Added Storage has gone out of its way to make the event a success by making several storage units available for the yard sale.
“We appreciate everyone that has donated, especially Added Storage…we really hope the community comes out and buys a lot of this stuff and we can make a lot of money from this and really put it towards the girls,” Halpin said. “Most importantly, we just want the girls to have a really good experience there at the park.”
Added Storage is located at 3240 Veterans Circle in Trussville.
