From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
JEFFERSON COUNTY — About 100 students with The Academy of Craft Training were signed on for jobs Wednesday, April 24.
The Academy of Craft Training introduces high school students directly to the construction industry by teaching them a trade and connecting them with contractors. Wednesday, those contractors were on site for signing day.
Of the 170 students in the program, around 100 got jobs. Clay Mayor Charles Webster said all five Clay-Chalkville High School students participating signed employment contracts. Some Hewitt-Trussville High School students also signed on for jobs. By the end of the year, Webster said 90% – 95% of all students will be employed.
Contractors will continue interviews over the next couple of weeks.
