Harold Wood Scott, known to his many friends as Scottie, of Trussville, AL, died on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City, AL.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nell Crain Scott, his parents Bessie and Richard Scott, and by his son Jerry Scott. He is survived by his sister Joann Pollard (Jack), of Fort Smith, AR and their sons Tim, David and Phil, by his son Alan Scott (Deborah) of Atlanta, daughter D’Anne Scott (Karen Garner), daughter Lisa Allen, grandchildren Heather Yousuf, Jessica Parkman, Lesli Scott Bradford and Zachary Scott, all of Birmingham, nephew Richard Scott, of Trussville, and his sons Pvt. Jonathan Scott, U.S. Army, and Daniel Scott.
Born April 8, 1929 in Memphis, TN, Scottie graduated from Grand Junction (TN) High School in 1947, served in the U.S. Air Force, and graduated from Memphis State University in 1957. He moved with his family to Birmingham in 1963, and had a long and varied career in banking, securities trading and commercial roofing. He was an expert woodworker, building many pieces of furniture, and he loved spending fall Saturdays in Tuscaloosa cheering for the Crimson Tide with friends and family.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers of the Veterans Administration Hospital of Birmingham, Country Cottages Assisted Living in Hoover, and Col. Robert L. Howard Veterans Home in Pell City, for their care and affection for Scottie during his courageous fight with cancer.
A memorial service celebrating Scottie’s life will be held at the The First Presbyterian Church of Trussville on Sunday, October 6, at 3 p.m., the Reverend Peggy A. McClure presiding.
