Former Pinson Valley standout baseball player Desmond Jennings came up big Wednesday night, helping the Tampa Bay Rays get past the Cleveland Indians in the American League Wild Card Game.
With the Rays up 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Jennings doubled to left field, scoring James Loney and Evan Longoria.
Jennings finished 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. The Rays went on to win, 4-0, and will face the Boston Red Sox in the American League Divisional Series. That series begins in Boston on Friday.
Jennings this season batted .252, hit 14 home runs, had 54 RBIs and scored 82 runs. He hit 31 doubles and stole 20 bases.
Jennings, who had signed to play college football at the University of Alabama, graduated from Pinson Valley High School in 2005.
