JEFFERSON COUNTY –An FBI criminal investigation is underway as federal authorities look into a possible embezzlement scheme involving a county employee, according to Barnett Wright of The Birmingham Times.
One county employee has been fired in relation to the investigation that is believed to involve between $200,000 and $375,000 in telecommunication equipment, including phones and tablets, Wright reported. The equipment was not used by the county.
County officials didn’t not comment on the specifics of the case or confirm the investigation, but county manager Tony Petelos said the county would work with any agency in any investigation.
