TRUSSVILLE — A standing room only crowd gathered at the Trussville Civic Center on Monday night to watch as the city ushered in a new mayor and two new city council members. Surrounded by his wife, his mother and number of children and grandchildren, Mayor Buddy Choat was sworn in by Judge Bob Vance as the first new mayor in Trussville since 1996.
Along with the new mayor, councilmen Dr. Zack Steele and Jef Freeman were sworn in with incumbents who won re-election Perry Cook, Brian Plant and Alan Taylor.
This term will be the second for each Cook and Taylor, while Plant will be serving his fifth term.
“I am honored to represent the city of Trussville,” Choat said. “I look forward to working with (the council) as we represent you the best we can.”
Carl Chamblee was named to remain as municipal judge and was also sworn in by Vance. A new city attorney was appointed by the council on Monday night. Massey, Stotser and Nichols, a Trussville law firm, will take over those duties.
