BIRMINGHAM — A man and a woman from Birmingham have been arrested on drug-related charges after narcotics investigators from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop as part of an investigation of methamphetamine sales.
The arrest took place on April 6 when investigators where conducting a surveillance detail and a traffic stop of a reportedly stolen rental car was made on the 2100 block of 6th Avenue South in Birmingham. Inside were two occupants identified as Candice Cherie Martin, 36 and Johnrell Quincy Dillard, 35.
A search of the car yielded 70 grams of methamphetamine, two grams of heroin, a handgun, drug paraphernalia, and the recovery of a stolen car. The two were arrested and taken to the Jefferson County Jail where bond was later set at $100,000 each.
The next day, investigators obtained warrants that formally charged Martin and Dillard with methamphetamine. Dillard faces possible federal firearms charges as his case is reviewed with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms.
