BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is mourning the loss of a retired police officer.
Sgt. Charles Singletary retired on June 4, 2021, and passed away on July 28, 2021.
Chief Patrick Smith sent a letter about the man he said was planning on coming back and taking part in the BPD rehire program.
“Unfortunately, that return date would never come,” said Smith. “Regrettably, Sergeant Singletary passed away on July 28, 2021, at the VA Hospital. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and son, along with a host of family and friends. Sergeant Singletary will certainly be missed by his BPD family and friends. Rest In Peace Sergeant Singletary, we’ve got it from here.”
Smith said the passing of Singletary was sudden and shocking but he did not say how he died.
