BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) requests the public’s assistance in a Birmingham teen’s homicide investigation.
According to the BPD, 17-year-old Javarius Reid was murdered on Friday, January 28, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m.
“North Precinct officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of 16th Street North on a report of shots fired,” Officer Truman Fitzgerald said. “Officers arrived on the scene and observed multiple spent shell casings in the roadway.”

While on the scene, officers discovered a victim was transported to UAB Hospital via private vehicle. Shortly after the victim’s arrival, UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was traveling inside a vehicle in the 2900 block of 16th Street North when shots were fired in the area,” Fitzgerald said. “The victim was fatally wounded by gunfire while he was inside of a vehicle; he was an innocent bystander.”
Currently, there is no suspect in custody.
