JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Trussville Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating multiple vehicle break-ins that occurred early Wednesday morning.
Jefferson County’s Lieutenant Joni Money stated that vehicles located on Towhee Drive in Pinson were broken into, and most of the vehicles broken into were left unlocked.
“According to the report, witnesses said there was a drive-off tag on the vehicle,” Money stated. “There’s no way to track a [drive-off tag].”
There were also vehicles broken into in Trussville’s jurisdiction.
Trussville’s Lieutenant Clint Riner said that the Trussville Police Department was alerted to several unlawful breaking and entering of vehicles. Officers responded to neighborhoods off Deerfoot Parkway, “where several unlocked vehicles were rummaged through, and three vehicles were stolen.”
“One vehicle equipped with OnStar was recovered several hours after the theft in the 9000 block of Roebuck Boulevard, and a second vehicle was recovered this afternoon in the 600 block of Valley Crest Drive,” Riner stated.
Riner stated that the witnesses described the suspects from a home security video as “three black males in a dark-colored vehicle.” Patrol units were able to locate a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle in the area with an automotive drive-off tag.
“Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle; however, the vehicle fled,” Riner stated.
Riner said that both the Pinson break-ins and Trussville break-ins are believed to be connected.
“The Trussville Police Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of locking your vehicles and removing all valuables overnight,” Riner stated. “These steps will not stop you from being a victim of theft but will greatly reduce your chances.”
Authorities said that no suspect(s) are in custody.
