High school softball season has begun in Alabama.
And several local teams were in play Thursday night in early-season play. See game recaps below.
Hewitt-Trussville 5, Bob Jones 1
The Hewitt-Trussville girls put this one away early.
Following a 1-2-3 top-half, the Huskies (8-0) sent three runs across in the first to set the tone in a 5-1 home win over Bob Jones. Kenleigh Cahalan started things up in the first with a three-bagger to left and ran home on a Jenna Lord single for the game’s first run. Crystal Maze followed with an RBI double and Anyce Harvey punctuated the first with a run-scoring single.
Starter Sarah Hindman took over from there, tossing a complete seven with four hits allowed to go with one walk and three strikeouts for Hewitt-Trussville. Harvey led the offense with two hits and as many RBIs.
Springville 15, Pinson Valley 2
Springville scattered 19 hits on Thursday in a 15-2 road win at Pinson Valley.
St. Clair County 11, Leeds 4
A late push from St. Clair County would make the difference as Leeds dropped the road test 11-4. The Green Wave took its first lead at 3-1 thanks to a three-run fourth, but later gave up six in the fifth and four more in the sixth to slip to 1-4 on the year.
Right fielder Maddie Anthony paced the Leeds offense with three hits, one run scored and one RBI on the night. Marley Miller and Emma Machen also singled home runs for the Green Wave.
