On April 6, Martin and Dillard were stopped by deputies who were conducting a drug investigation. A search of the vehicle yielded 70 grams of methamphetamine. Another search of the car later yielded notebooks belonging to Martin that had names, dates of birth, social security numbers, and financial documents.
When questioned about the notebooks, Martin told investigators that she was a tax preparer.
However, an investigator at the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigative Unit determined that the notebooks were being used to allegedly obtain loans, credit cards, and fraudulent tax refunds. Detectives called the names in the notebooks and found that none of them had had any contact with Martin before.
The county District Attorney issued an arrest warrant for Martin charging her with trafficking stolen identity for financial gain. Her bond was set in this particular case at $25,000 and she remains in the Jefferson County Jail.
