BIRMINGHAM – Weather permitting, the Alabama Department of Transportation will continue a project to improve the I-59/20 and I-65 Interchange as follows:
- Tuesday, May 1st, Thursday, May 3rd and Saturday, May 5th, ALDOT will close the I-65 Northbound Ramp to I-59/20 Northbound from 11 p.m. til 5 a.m. to set Bridge Girders across the roadway.
Detours include the following:
- Traffic on I-65 NB will be detoured to the 16th Street exit. From there they can turn left on 16th Street, get on I-65 SB, and exit onto I-59/20 NB.
- Wednesday, May 2nd and Friday, May 4th, the I-59/20 ramp to I-65 Southbound will be closed from 11p.m. til 5 a.m. to set Bridge Girders across the roadway.
- Traffic on I-59/20 SB will be directed to take the Arkadelphia Road exit, turn left and get on I-59/20 NB. From there they can take the next exit onto I-65 SB.
Message boards will be up along the path for the detour and closures will be enforced by Law Enforcement Officers.
A reduced speed limit of 45 mph is in effect throughout the work zone.
Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.
