BESSEMER — The Jefferson County jail in Bessemer will be closed from Feb. 22 to Sept. 19 for repairs and renovations.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the repairs are necessary to continue safe and secure living conditions at the jail.
Officials said that prisoners from the jail will be housed at the county jail in Birmingham. The Bessemer jail will be open for modified operations Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Bessemer court cases. The prisoners will be brought to Bessemer each day and taken back to the Birmingham jail after court proceedings.
